Guiding Light
This program is dedicated to my dear friend Debbie;
In the spring of 2022, Debbie asked if I would read The Journey by Brandon Bays with her. Debbie had been diagnosed with cancer, and I was determined to help her in any way I could, to keep this beautiful soul with us as long as possible.
The book captivated us both. It explores the idea that “the body keeps the score”—that our bodies may hold onto trauma and that healing can happen by releasing those stored memories. It’s a complex concept, but when faced with something as relentless as cancer, any approach that might enhance mental peace and possibly slow down the spread is worth exploring. The book guides you gently into a state of deep relaxation and uses techniques from NLP to revisit and release memories and patterns that may no longer serve us. Debbie and I would dive into these sessions, each lasting hours. I would see her come out lighter, processing negative life experiences, memories with a new perspective.
Seeing her transformation deepened my own desire to study this field. I wanted to give Debbie the opportunity to heal as much as possible, and of course, to offer this to her as my dearest friend, freely and with all my heart.
In her final months, though the cancer had taken a stronger hold, Debbie’s spirit remained radiant. She had such a resilient outlook, graciously accepting the love and support surrounding her. I can’t say for certain how much our sessions helped, but the journey itself, as the book says, was transformative. Life is full of ups and downs, and any practice that can help us feel lighter and more connected is worth trying. That’s what we did—we gave it a try.
In 2023, we said goodbye to Debbie in her physical form, but I still feel her presence all around me. I find her in the beauty of nature—in the brilliance of a rainbow, the sea spray on my face, a robin’s song, or in the quiet space I hold for someone in a hypnotherapy session. I know she’d be proud of me for living authentically and finding my own path to healing. I am so grateful for every lesson she left me, for the beauty in every day, and for the chance to carry forward what we began together.
Life truly is for living, and I feel closer to her every time I live it fully.
